MaineHousing’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is open and accepting applications.
Although federal funding for this season was delayed by the recent federal government shutdown, MaineHousing received confirmation this week that federal funds are anticipated to be delivered by the end of November.
MaineHousing partners continue to accept and process HEAP applications. Payments to fuel vendors have already begun for priority households that applied and were approved in August and September.
To date, approximately 4,000 households have received assistance, totaling $2.2 million in fuel support. These payments were made as a result of MaineHousing’s reallocation of 2024–2025 carry-over funds originally designated for the Central Heating Improvement Program (CHIP) and HEAP-related weatherization programs. Those funds will be replenished once Maine’s federal grant for the 2025–2026 heating season arrives.
Please note that the Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) will remain closed until Maine receives its full federal HEAP allocation for the upcoming season.
In the meantime, MaineHousing and its partners encourage all potentially eligible households to begin the HEAP application process now if they have not already done so.
