For nearly 40 years, MaineHousing has helped Maine people realize the dream of homeownership. Through a statewide network of participating banks, credit unions and mortgage companies, we provide residential mortgages with more affordable terms and lower down payment requirements than may be available through conventional mortgage loans.
MaineHousing welcomes your application for approval as a participating lender if your company meets the following minimum qualifications:
- Lender is an approved originator for Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Lender will maintain a fidelity bond and mortgage errors and omissions insurance coverage, at its own expense, acceptable to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.
- Lender is an approved originator for at least one of the following government insurers/guarantors: Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) or Rural Development (RD).
Lender has maintained one or more mortgage loan origination offices within the State for the past 12 months, at a minimum, providing customers an opportunity for face-to-face contact with qualified staff.
- Lender is duly licensed or certified to originate mortgage loans in the state under all applicable state and federal laws: Lender is in good standing with their regulatory agency and the State of Maine.
- Lender has the capacity to process, underwrite, close and fund originated loans in their own name, and using their own funds.
