The MaineHousing Board of Commissioners has asked Deputy Director Peter Merrill of Portland to serve as interim director of MaineHousing upon the retirement of Director John Gallagher on January 5, 2018.
The Board will be conducting a search process to recommend a permanent director for consideration by Governor Paul LePage.
Merrill has served as deputy director for more than five years, and has been with the agency for more than 20 years. He is responsible for MaineHousing’s general operations and represents the agency before the Maine Legislature.
According to Peter Anastos, Chair of MaineHousing’s Board of Directors, “The agency is in good hands while the board undertakes the search process for the next director.”
Gallagher announced his retirement in November after five years as director of the $1.6 billion financial institution.
